Ancient Pathway

Poster Size is 13 X 19 inches

G-d wants us to walk in His ancient paths as we see from the prophet Jeremiah: Jer 18:15 Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, … Jer 6:16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

In this epic piece entitled “Ancient Pathway” you will see two words in the top right corner. In Hebrew it says “Sefer Torah”, or the “Scroll of the Torah”. The word Sefer (horizontal) means book, scroll, or scribe.

The word running vertically is “Torah”, which literally means instruction, and is made up of the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The five books are known by different names in the original Hebrew language.

Genesis = B’resheit  “in the beginning”

Exodus = Shemot   “these are the names”

Leviticus = Vayikra  “G-d called out”

Numbers = Bamidbar   “into the wilderness”

Deuteronomy = Devarim   “these are His words”

The names of the books, in their original form, state, “In the Beginning these are the names G-d called out into the wilderness and these are His words.”

Very different than in English?!

The word Torah comes from the root meaning to hit the mark, as an archer. The word Torah in Hebrew has a numerical value of 611 which is the same numerical value as the entire verse in Psa31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in Y-H-V-H.

Let’s see what King David thought of Torah from the Psalms, known in Hebrew as Tehillim (Praises):

Psa 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy Torah; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Psa 119:44-47 So shall I keep thy Torah continually forever and ever. From the book of Joshua we find: Jos 1:8 This book (sefer) of the Torah shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
